Bringing the Atelier to Italy: Notes from a Lake Como Wedding

Last September we travelled with a bride and her family of twenty-two to Lake Como for a four-day Indo-Italian wedding. Here is what the journey taught us about working away from our home studio.

Packing the Atelier

Our travel kit fits into two carry-on cases. Custom paste is mixed in Ahmedabad, sealed in vacuum pouches, and frozen until 24 hours before departure. Cones are rolled on arrival to control consistency for the local humidity.

Working with the Light

Italian afternoon light is softer and warmer than Ahmedabad's. We adjusted our paste recipe slightly — a touch more sugar — to compensate for the cooler ambient temperature and ensure stain depth. Small changes, decisive results.
